Steve & Matt,

We love Mabel! She is a perfect match for us. She has adjusted very quickly
to us, our home and our other short-hair Roxy. Mabel is very curious about
everything in the house and has potty trained very quickly. She has been
very well trained by Matt and we can tell she was very loved. We've had
Mabel on a few pheasants in WI and she's done very well. Everyone who meets
her thinks she's so sweet.

We were extremely impressed by your kennel. It was so clean and all the
dogs looked very well taken care of. We appreciate how quickly you
responded to our emails and calls and how you answered all of our questions.
We couldn't have found a better dog, she is exactly what we wanted.

Thank you and have a Merry Christmas,
Curt and Brenda - WI

Steve,

As you already know my wife and I decided to purchase another Top Gun Dog from you because our little female Jetta was stolen 6 weeks ago. As my wife and I discussed our options in purchasing a new dog, we decided to purchase Amos, a Started 9 month old male. I was amazed by his calmness and desire to please. We picked him up on thanksgiving weekend, and with 30 plus people at my parents home in Phoenix, they were all amazed at his disposition. In fact, two different people asked if he was a chocolate lab. As we arrived at our home late Saturday night Nov. 24th we really didn’t know what to do. Well, we decided to just let him sleep in the house with us. We knew that he was not house trained so that concerned us, however, to our surprise the next morning we found that he was eagerly waiting to go outside. He figured out the house training in a day. Since that night we have kept him inside and my 6 children have decided that he is staying inside forever, except for our hunting adventures of course!! In addition, he allows our two and four year old boys to pet and brush him without any issues, and he seems to fit right in with the rest of us. Thank you for all of your help and we look forward to many great years with Amos.

Sincerely,

Steve,

I appreciate what you've done with Ginger. I am very pleased with what I've seen and I will certainly tell friends and acquaintenances to talk to you about their training needs. Again thanks for an excellent experience with Ginger. Give our best to Jodie and Rachel.

Steve,

I hope things are going well for you and your family. I purchased a male GSP from you in March of 2006. The result of your breeding Murphy X Nikki. I often visit your web site to keep up with the happenings that are going on with ' Top Gun ' and to visit your planed breeding. Roux, is without a doubt the very best bird dog I have ever owned. He not only is a confirmed hunter and retriever on land but last year I took him in the duck blind with me as well. My hunting buddies looked at me like I had lost my mind the first time I showed up at the boat ramp with him. To say the least a few side bets were made as to how he would perform. After Roux out swam and out retrieved a Champion Black Lab they quit pointing and laughing. Anytime you can get a blind full of hunters to stop shooting and to start watching your dog work, well I knew that I had something special! To have a dog that LIVES to be in a duck blind at sun up, the upland fields in the afternoon and sleeping in the bed with my daughter at night is more than any man needs.

Thanks again for the years of hard work and dedication that you and your family have put into these beautiful animals so that someone like me can have a lifetime of memories.

Steve and Jodie Ries / Russ and Sue Richner,

Mocha has done quite well with her training. She seems eager to learn, we think it's a natural ability/instinct to please. Her bird training skills and obedience have filtered through to being an excellent family pet. She does very well with basic commands. She loves people (especially kids) and she gets along well with other pets (canine and feline). Although her puppy still shows through, she loves to play and tease other animals. She is never rough and is always well mannered. We are very pleased with both our adoption and training of our German Shorthair. We couldn't have asked for a better canine friend and we will definitely give our compliments and references to anyone interested.

Thank you for our experiences!

My name is Ryan Giannini and I operate Highland Hideaway Hunting a Shooting and Hunting Preserve in Riverside Iowa. I was a first time GSP owner about 5 years ago, when I purchased a dog from Steve. Since then I have had over 15 dogs in and out of my kennel all of which come from Top Gun Kennels. The service and great advice you will receive at there operation is top noch. If looking for a GSP I would not recommend anyone but Top Gun Kennels.

My guide service is through Steve so all of our guided hunts are using dogs that have come from Top Gun. Please check out our web site by clicking on the link below and you can see what some of our hunters have said about our guide service with Top Gun Kennels. http://www.highlandhunting.com/testimonials.asp

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about some of my experiences with GSP and Top Gun Kennels.

Dear Steve and Family,

This is Top Gun Copper, he is a fully loaded 27(inch), 62lbs, solid liver hunting machine. Copper has been a great addition to the family! He is not only loved by the family but all of the surrounding neighbors love him to (Because of his kind and caring nature)! Copper has a very strong desire to please and he will do whatever it takes to get the job done! He thrives on attention and praise! His nose is one of the best I have seen! I recently ran him in a N.A. Test and he scored an 112pt perfect score. That was with hardly any training! He is a pleasure to train and hunt with. Thanks for the amazing friend and hunting companion

Sincerely,

Hello,

I ran Desy in the NAVHDA natural ability test yesterday and she scored a 110- prize one. She turned all their heads and one of the judges asked if she was out of the (popular) kennel to which I replied no "Top gun out of Iowa". Later they ask again what kennel she was out of so I told them Top Gun out of Iowa. Two of the judges said that is a fine little bitch you have there. Her pointing was awesome and she covered the field like a pro. Even without the e collar she obeyed my every command. There where 4 Weims. there and they almost had to throw them in the water-so when Desy entered without any problem they were very happy. I am extremely pleased with Desy. Everything you told me about Desy was exactly the way she is- you did not misrepresent her to me and I appreciate your truthfulness. As soon as I get some pics I'll send them to you.

DW

Ries family,

wanted to updated you on Storm. We ran a NA test yesterday and I was confident she would be perfect up until the tracking portion. She just as I expected through the field and water. When it came time for tracking it looked to my inexperienced eyes like she had totally bombed it. When they read the scores I was brought to tears with joy. She received a prize I perfect score at 6.5 months of age!!!! I never really trained her for any of the test. I simply provided here with the experience in the field and lake throughout the summer. I didn't even know we were going to be in the test until the weekend before due to a cancellation. We hadn't practiced tracking at all so we worked on it for only 3 days total due to the weather. The result was a true testament to the natural abilities of your breedings. I want to thank you SO much for blessing me with this wonderful dog.

German Shorthaired Pointer Colby

Steve,

Here are a few pictures of Colby. He has been a real treat to watch so far. He was pointing birds at 10 weeks and from the picture he is showing some style. He has been swimming, retrieving, and has a great desire to be with you. We can't wait till he gets older so we can use him on the guide service and currently plan on making him a part of our breeding program here at the kennel. I will send updated pictures and e-mails as he continues to develop. Thanks for the great pup.

Hi Steve,

Just wanted to give you an update on Rosco.Rosco is a bird machine! I've had him over about 150 birds now and there is NOT one that he has not pointed or found I could not have asked for a better dog.Best of all he is a great house companion and is great with my dauhters. He is heel broke, completely whoa broke, steady to wing and shot there is a few times he breaks after the bird, he also has the here command down pat with voice and whistle. I haven't worked much with him in the water but he fetches the dummies and brings back to hand.

Thanks again for a great dog if you need a referance mark me down I would be glad to be one!

Thanks,
Todd Achter & Rosco

TG Zephyr

Dear Bill:

Steve Ries has asked us to describe our experience with our Top Gun German Shorthair Pointer who is nine months old. Zephyr has loved water from the first time she was introduced to it. Her duck searches during training sessions are wonderful. She is a strong and smooth swimmer. She has been steady on point since she was six months old. Zephyr is our second German Shorthair Pointer. We are NAVHDA members and train on a regular basis and we couldn't be more pleased with her training.

Zephyr's coat is thick and we are certain that she will be able to go duck hunting in temperatures well below 50 degrees. It has been our experience that the desire to get the retrieve overshadows the effects of cold water! Duck hunting in 50 degree water is pretty warm compared to the water temperatures here in the Northeast part of the country!

We believe you would find a Top Gun dog to be an excellent hunting companion as well as a great member of the family. We have enjoyed our experience with the Ries family as well.

Sincerely,
Randy and Kristen King

TG Zephyr

First and foremost, I want to thank you all for professionally training my dog - Hunter.

As you are all aware, I brought Hunter to you when he was 14 months old. It is understood that at this age, it is a little late to start training a pointing bird dog. As you recall when I brought Hunter to you, he was not obedient and he would not point. However, thanks to Steve's unique ability to" turn the light bulb on" in a dogs mind, and Jeff Chapman's patience and determination during force-breaking, Hunter turned out to be a great bird dog and obedient companion.

When the time comes for another hunting companion, I'll be contacting Top Gun Kennel. As you can tell from the photo, Hunter (not even 2 years old) has been quite busy.

My wife Sharon and I, thank Top Gun Kennel for all you have done and for the relationship that has formed.

Sincerely,
Greg Car

Mr. Cunningham,

We are emailing you to let you know about our business with Steve Ries. We have a hunting preserve called Century Farms Pheasant Lodge in Dike, IA. This will be our 5th season.

Steve has brought his dogs here for many of our corporate hunts. His dogs do a great job in all aspects of how each hunt should go. Yearly we have the same hunts that request Steve's services. We highly recommend his dogs. They are a great family that are very trustworthy.

Dear Ryan:

We understand you are interested in two German Shorthair Pointers and are looking into Top Gun GSPs. We think you are looking in the right direction. We live in Pennsylvania and got our first GSP from a local breeder about five years ago. When she was three we felt it was time to start investigating breeders to decide where to get our next GSP. Our older dog was training for the NAVHDA Invitational and we needed a new dog to start to train. We considered breeders from the Northeast and Midwest.

We narrowed down our search and arranged to visit Top Gun Kennels during a trip to the Midwest in the summer of 2004. We were impressed not only with the dogs but with the Ries family and shortly after our visit we placed a deposit for our next puppy. Top Gun Zephyr was born September 3, 2005 -- during the NAVHDA Invitational. We were able to stop and see the litter on our way back to Pennsylvania from Minnesota. We returned in late October to pick up Zephyr and she has been a dream to train. She was steady on point at six months, absolutely loves the water and the duck search, has a nose that could find a needle in a haystack and has a great disposition. She is a wonderful family member and we are sure she will be an excellent hunting dog.

Please feel free to write us with any questions. We with you luck with your preserve!

Sincerely,
Randy and Kristen King

Steve,

I just returned from a tour overseas and wanted to update you on the puppy that I bought from you last year; Top Gun Jeb. I was concerned that being gone for an extended period early in his development was going to be a problem. It would appear that I couldnt have been more wrong. Jeb is doing fantastic and is hunting like a true veteran. I am planning on entering AKC hunt tests in the spring and hunting him the rest of this season to include a trip to Kansas/Iowa around Christmas. Everyone that has seen Jeb has been "wowed" by him and I couldnt be happier. It is a testament to your breeding program that Jeb continues to impress my hunting buddies (especially the pointer folks) and outshine dogs very much his senior even with me being gone and not able to train for several months. I look forward to see how good the two of us can become as a team with some consistent training time. Thanks again for my "brag" dog and I hope you and your family enjoy a Merry Christmas.

God Bless,
Patrick McCauley

My name is Bill Monk and I am a proud Top Gun Dog Owner. I met the Ries family several years ago when I took my non-top gun dog there for training. Steve was very honest and open about my pup and when I got him back he was a different dog. Unfortunitly he ended up with a bad skin diese and I had to make a hard choice and put him down. At that point in time I made up my mind that I would never own another GSP unless it was a Top Gun Dog. I have seen a number of their dogs and I would hunt behind all of them again. The Ries Family is bettering the breed and creating versitle dogs that can compete in anything you enter them in. They will shine in the field and they will relax at home with the family. They are the ultimate hunting companion.

My own Top Gun Good Time Charlie is going on two years old and he excels in everything I put him in. He is great with my kids and has been a house, apartment and kennel dog. He is a part of our family and adapts to everything I throw at him. You can and will not go wrong with a Top Gun Dog or becoming part of the Top Gun Team if you decide to get one. These dogs are bred to please and will do it from day one.

Steve,

Abby is doing well for her age. It took her about an hour to figure out those highland birds and then she was right down to business. She is pointing, retrieving and delivering to hand naturally. I wish we had that kind of hunting available in Ohio.

Mike, Cindi, Cait, and of course, Madie and Taz

Hi Steve and Family!

I had to take a minute and update you on Taz. I am not a professional dog handler by any stretch of the imagination, but my work on a pheasant farm each fall for the last 8 years has given me the opportunity to see a lot of bird dog work. Without qualification, I would put Taz up against any of them, and she's barely even a year old. She is enthusiastic, handles like a dream, has a beautifully stylish point and retrieves like a champ.

Yesterday was a training day for our young dogs. Two of my neighbors helped me with a short hunt. All of the birds in this picture were from Taz!!! She has exceeded all of my expectations!

I wanted you to thank you and let you know what a wonderful impact your dog has had on my family. As always your family is in our thoughts and prayers!

Mike, Cindi, Cait, and of course, Madie and Taz!!!

Good Morning Steve,

Just a short note to let you know that I am happy to be a Prayer Warrior in this "Holly War" for Ben, and that You and your Family are the reason that I can now pray to God again. Without your concern and help I'm not sure I would have came back to the Lord's Family so soon, if at all. Thank you again for your help and lending me Mr.. Warren's book. Both of you have had a large positive impact on my life.

Bless You and your Family,
Michael Chaplin

Steve,

Hope all is well. Thanx for the info on this. I will check my schedule however i do believe we will be attending with Cami. There are many reasons we made the decision to purchase a puppy from you. One of them being the information and the help after the sale. Thanx for everything you do to make sure the breed is kept at a high standard and to make sure that everyone who purchases dogs from you stays well informed!!

We are very proud to own Hershey! She has made a very positive impression here in the Oklahoma region with her strong showings in her first few trials. We plan on hitting it hard in the fall trials, and also trying to get her entered in an AKC hunt test soon she was scheduled to hunt in the Indian National test the weekend after she come into season so we had to cancel. Keep us posted on this upcoming litter we can't wait to bring home our next Top Gun GSP.

Thanks,

Over the past 3 years I have personally purchased 2 Top Gun Kennel bred pups and have had the privilege to work with a third Top Gun Kennel bred gun dog. I compete in field events and probably have higher expectations than do most weekend hunters. The first pup I purchased became a Field Champion of record and earned 4 Master Hunter qualifying scores prior to his 2nd birthday. This is a big accomplishment for any dog regardless of age. The second pup is just 12 months old and is performing at a level far above his age. I plan to compete this dog with high expectations in the next couple months in puppy, derby, and gun dog stakes. My experience shows that the Top Gun Kennel dogs have a desire to hunt, make excellent field companions, are quick learners, have a desire to please, and in competition events make me look like a better trainer than I am.

I am an AKC licensed Field Trial judge and AKC licensed Hunt Test judge. Over the past 10 years I have closely observed 1000's of German Shorthairs. When I want to buy a pup, Top Gun Kennel is the only place I look.

My wife and I would like to thank you once again for having us at your place. You run a great facility, one that I am proud to own a dog from if you ever need to use us for a reference we would love to tell anyone about your kennels and your great personality. Please thank every one that was apart of our great trip to Iowa.

Thanks again,

Steve,

Wanted to take a moment to offer my congratulations to you as the breeder of this exceptional young dog and more particularly to his handler. The dog is obviously talented but it takes someone very special to bring that talent out at such an age. This is a truly exceptional achievement and all involved should be rightly proud and celebrate...Best regards

Libby and Charlia

Hi Steve,

Charlia (our 11 year old daughter) and Libby won the third place trophy out of 15 at the Wisconsin State 4H Dog Show last weekend in the 5th grade Prenovice A obedience class. They had an AKC qualifying score of 188. This is Charlia's second year in the 4H Dog Project. Training Libby has given her poise, patience and a sense of responsibility - we're proud of them both!

There were, I was told, about 400 dogs at the fair with that many families at least. Libby was her sweet self and well behaved with all the commotion. She's a great dog with a sweet disposition.

Steve and family,

I would also like to compliment you on your GSPs. Jag (9 months old) is everything that I hoped he would be. He learns quickly and takes both hand and voice commands well. When I first considered getting a GSP people told me that they range to far for foot hunters. This is not the case with Jag he works close, if he does happen to range to far a quick blow on the whistle will bring him back to my side. He also has a exceptional nose. However, there are times when it appears he is running instead of hunting. I believe this is due more to the lack of birds here in Colorado then to him not wanting to hunt. Because when he gets on a bird his whole body language changes he gets very intense and that nose is to the ground. I only shot 2 pheasants and 3 quail over Jag this year, conditions were the worst I have ever seen and there was little cover.

Steve, I am very pleased with Jag he is everything that you advertised him to be and I have never regretted my purchase of him, he is now another member of the family. He is also a excellent family dog.

Sincerely
Wes

Jim,

Call Top Gun Kennels in Central City, IA. Steve Ries is the owner and trainer. Call him at 319-842-3333. It is hard to get a pup sometimes from him do the the waiting list, but would be worth the wait. Look at his stud dog "Jake" at www.topgungsps.com.

I own a female that is one and half years old. At 8 months she was backing and pointing naturally. She did retrieve several times last season, but could not always beat the old dogs to the bird. This year should be a different story. The thing I like about this line is the fact the dogs are not overly hyper around the yard and kids, but put them in the field, it is a whole different ballgame.

Top Gun Kennel has donated a male pup the past three years to our Pheasant Forever banquet. They have brought $675 to $850. I do respect the fact that Steve has always chosen a dog and stuck with that dog to be donated. Last year he could've easily pulled the dog from the banquet and sold Maverick for a pretty penny. Steve actually sold the banquet ticket to the high bidder!

Any questions, e-mail me.
Mike Pickering

Steve,

Thought I would write you a note to tell you that we took our Jake Puppy to a quail preserve this morning. Our puppy (Lady) did real well in that she made a couple of very nice points on three quail. A very classy point. With the right kind of work I am confident that she will be a real winner. Surprisingly, we had our 2 year old German Shorthair with us and at one point Lady even backed our other dog. Just wanted to drop you a line to let you know about our day. Talk to you soon.

Steve,

What a quick assimilation!

It's as if Otto as lived with us for years. My wife and daughters have fallen in love and Otto has exactly the personality you said..warm, inquisitive, friendly. He slept last night at the foot of our bed, which is fine with us. This morning, he got a good run in around the property at the office here and is now taking a nap under my desk with a smile on his face.

This is a great dog!

Thank you,

Steve,

I have been taking Ace for walks and introducing him to different types of cover. You were right about a male being aggressive at hitting the cover. He's not afraid to run through switch grass and plum thickets. He does real good for a 4 month old pup. He had his first true point Sunday. He locked up in a nice point for about 10 seconds before a hen busted out right from under his nose. He watched for a moment then gave chase for 30-40 yards before coming back. He pointed three more times that day, but I think he was pointing mice. there wasn't enough cover to hide a bird and when I came walking up to him he would pounce. I haven't really done much for training yet. He does knows what come, no and down mean. He doesn't seem ready for allot of training so I decided to back off for now. I'm planning to get serious around 6 months. He's got everything he needs to be a good bird dog, just as long as I can do my job and harness all that into one solid package. Thanks.

Hi Steve!

Hope your week is going good so far. Just wanted to drop you a quick note and let you know that Rosie passed her CGC test Monday night. We even had a week to spare! Have to admit I was a little nervous about it as the week before she decided she didn't want anyone to touch her feet. Made quite a spectacle of herself. The funny thing was, she didn't mind if she was laying down and preoccupied with something but as soon as you had her "sit" and things were more formal she wouldn't hear of it. Once again, her way of being rebellious. (ha) Thanks to the trainer we figured out how to get past that one so every things under control again. As I told you before, this will go on her AKC papers so I'm pretty proud of her for that.

Steve,

How's it going? I have been working with Bounty quit a bit and he is doing a stellar job so far. We went out Saturday and work on quartering and then went out into the CPR and he pointed about 7 times, of that 4 times there were birds. I would imagine they were running pretty good. Not bad though with the way the wind was blowing. What technique would you use when a bird is flushed but you can't or don't shoot the bird. Do you not release him or throw out a dummy? When I released him he took off and I had to yell to get him back and I don't like to yell or really shock him after a good point. What else should I be working him on?

Hershey has all the natural abilities you can ask for she loves to retrieve, back, and when put down she is always looking for birds and is very intense on point as you can see this is Hershey's pointing her first wild pheasant at 16 weeks old. She is very biddable and is very gentle with kids of all ages even at her young age. She never barks and doesn't mind being in the Kennel. I believe Hershey has all the makings of being a field champion and a brag dog when hunting with your buddies. I know where I am going to get my future pups and recommend anyone else looking for a top notch GSP to Contact Steve Ries at Top Gun Kennel.

Brian

Steve,

Now that quail season is winding down here in Texas I wanted to let you know how happy I am with Amy and sad that I can no longer call her a puppy as she has proven to be a seasoned bird finding fool!!! I hunt around some good bird dogs and she finds almost as many birds as they do. She is a joy to hunt with as she needs very little handling and is always looking for birds or me. We hunt in very rough country in far West TX. that is hard on dogs but she just keeps going and going with very little wear and tear. She is also turned out to be a good house dog and best friend to my seven year old male GSP.

Steve,

Otto is the perfect gentleman and has charmed my entire family as well as everyone here at the office. I have never seen a dog get so comfortable so fast with strangers. He also has picked up the "drill" in amazing time..knows when to be at the back door to go out, knows how to get to the elevator at the office and exactly where the office is, waits by the car beginning about 10-15 minutes before we leave in the morning. He has a great personality and is very affectionate. I will take him out for released pheasants in a couple of weeks on the eastern shore. In the meantime, he's drooling over the ducks that run around the office here. This has been one of the better investments I've made.

Steve, you rank very high in my book in terms of credibility, care for your animals, and follow-up.

Thanks,
John

Hey Steve,

Thank you for the awesome pup! We named her "MENA." You did a great job with the pups, that's evident when she came to us potty trained! (No moisture in the kennel after the flight) She holds it till she gets outside on the grass. She is even sleeping through the night without winning. ( I think it's the comfort of another dog, next to her) We will send you pictures of both "Piper" and "Mena" playing. We let them meet in a neutral place, and they loved each other from the beginning. Now they play all the time, and "Mena" fights back. She is a very curious, bold, and playful pup, yet with the courage to explore on her own. On the Puppy aptitude test, she would probably be a 2-3. We are very happy with the pup and think she will make a good search dog. We will keep you posted on her progress. Thanks again!

Steve,

Wanted to let you know that Missy has just graduated from the beginners obedience class. Checked with the trainer and it looks like she is the youngest dog they have had to pass. She was just 13 weeks old yesterday and they said their youngest had been 4 1/2 months as they normally don't start classes until they are 12 weeks old. She is doing super. Have her working on paying attention (watching) to me when she is heeling and sitting. She loves to retrieve all sorts of things. Hope to expose her to a bird or two over the weekend.

Subject: Excellent Opener!! (10/02)

Steve,

The bird numbers are really looking good. Hershey performed like a seasoned veteran today. We shot 6 birds over her points today and 2 yesterday. She held one point well over 10 minutes before I found her. The birds are really holding tight which has really worked out great for the young dogs. One of the guys with me this morning has been hunting over shorthairs for 20 years and said he has never seen one as good as Hershey did today. She was pointing birds his 6 year old was running by. She really made me proud today. She also had a couple very impressive backs. Not bad for 16 months of age! Brian

Hey, no crap, I tripled yesterday. Bounty is doing outstanding. Any doubts I might have had in GSP is well behind me and I really got to thank you because my Bo is becoming more priceless every time we go birdin. I can't even begin to describe how hard he busted his butt finding a barely hit bird in the worst cover. He just wouldn't quit. I will be getting another one of your dogs!

Top Gun Brandee

Steve

Brandee and Annie Oakley's first hunt. Wow, what a Dog....or should we say our princess. We hunted Rooster Ridge Pheasant farm in Browerville, MN. We had seven hunters and Brandee had them all in awe. It was so beautiful to watch her work and work and work...She is so determined. We heard comments like "I've never seen a dog work so well", "how old is she???" "Where did you get her?" "Fantastic!", "are you going to breed her?" etc, etc, etc.. The labs that hunted that day should have stayed in bed, they couldn't keep up. We went 30 for 30 on birds, Brandee was all but two, she sat that round out to rest and it took three labs to find the two, haha. Brandee is working our great in the house and has a wonderful temperment, Henry and her are quite a pair. The vet was very impressed with the perfect records of vaccinations and care of Brandee. The vet also said she is of perfect health, and has a great sounding heart and is in his words "a lean machine" and "a beautiful shorthair". and her tail is docked perfect. Anyway, can you tell we are thrilled with our new addition to our family? Thanks to all of you for helping us bring her home.

Happy Holidays,
The Wamres

If I were to complain I would be a liar. I can't begin to explain how happy I am with Gus. I already have one friend who I went with on Saturday that wants a pup so you can consider one of them out of one of your litters sold. The two guys that I hunted with Saturday used the words awesome, unbelievable, and amazing when they talked about Gus. One of the guys that I went with Sunday said Gus hunted and worked the ground better than the best trained dogs that he has hunted with. In fact this guy went by himself on Saturday and wounded a rooster which he couldn't find. Sunday we went to the same place and Gus found that wounded bird, snatched it up out of the grass and brought it right to me. These guys are comparing 1year old pup (Gus) to another Shorthair that had been to professional (expensive) training, he was the most awesome dog I had ever hunted with. That dog and a pup the guy was keeping out of him both got stolen, but that kind of gives you an idea. If you ever have anyone skeptical of you or your dogs you can have them call me, I'll brag about my dog until they just can't take it anymore.

Thanks again,
Matt

Steve,

I took Charlie (6 months old) to a pheasant farm this weekend and boy was Charlie on fire. We shot 21 birds and several of them were over him. We then went and planted a few more just for training purposes and he stuck them hard and looked great. I am hoping the pictures come out on them.

Sir

One of the most successful trainers in this area for a pointing, foot-handled, hunting dog is Steve Ries. Steve owns Top Gun Kennels and successfully enters and handles dogs in Natural Ability Competitions, Hunt Test, and Shoot-To-Retrieve events. Steve works closely with a couple other well respected veteran trainers who may be willing to help if Steve's schedule is full. Steve has my strongest recommendation. You can review his website at www.topgungsps.com, or he may be contacted at home (319) 842-3333.

Steve,

We would like to get our name in on your waiting list and I will get you the deposit money. We have learned my lesson on buying dogs from a newspaper ad, unproven kennel or one that we never went to visit. The dogs you are producing are the best I have yet to see. Your dogs can go play games and win. They can go into your house and be part of a family but when opening day of bird season is here your dogs go and excel at what they do best (hunting). I am always impressed when I leave your house. People from every where are looking at Top Gun dogs. Why should we go anywhere else to get a puppy when the best are within driving distance?

Thanks,
Chuck W.

Steve,

I WANT YOU to show me a better dog than Rosie!! You can show me all the champion dogs you want and until I see one out perform Rosie I'll put Rosie's desire and abilities up against any one of them. Those champion dogs may have finished characteristics that would make a judge place the champion dog ahead of Rosie. But for pure hunting ability and the shear fun of just hunting birds I'd love to see the dog that could be better than Rosie.

Dear Steve,

I have finally found a couple of minutes to write a quick note about our top gun Chief. Having owned and handled Labrador retrievers all my life and being an avid hunter, switching over to hunting and handling pointing dogs is quite an undertaking, and a real process to get to a respectable level. Having searched many, many kennels across the country I came up with your kennel to purchase my first GSP. First I want to say how much I appreciate the many phone calls and patience you have had with me during my education and on the job training. Chief as you know has tremendous power, desire and a true love for the field as I do. In the beginning I was overwhelmed with his energy and wondered if he was the right dog for me? I'd compare it to giving a first time driver a Porsche 911 to drive. Now nine months later I wonder how I am going to replace this dog. I have compared him to many others so called good dogs at our Hunt Club and GSP Club, and he has made me very proud. The most recent event, a water exercise where he did a long distance double retrieve that was very impressive. Chief lives in my home with my wife and two daughters; he is a real joy to live with. He has manners and personality and is my TV partner at night.

I would finally like to say that I think your kennel, your dogs and it's owner are truly Top Gun! You have my highest recommendation and would be happy to speak to anyone considering buying a dog from you.

My sincerest regards,
Tony

We have decided to name our puppy Top Gun Lea Marie " Packer " since she is such a very special member of the family. Her personality is so sweet that no one can resist holding and petting her. Lea already knows how to sit , come, fetch, and most important Lea no. She is very easy to train and learns so quickly. We could not be any happier with our choice of a puppy!
