Russ
Richner
Russ Richner resides in Anoka, Minnesota
with his wife Sue, son Jared, and daughter Sarah. After recieving
a degree in Soil and Water Resource Management at the University
of Minnesota, Russ has worked in the Waste Management field and
as a Water Quality Planner for a local Soil and Water Conservation
District. A decade later, he and his wife were blessed with son
Jared and life changed. A decision was made for Russ to be a stay
at home dad, allowing him to spend more quality time with his
family. He is currently working for the local school district
as a bus driver, and trains dogs on the side, time permitting.
Early in 2003, Russ had the fortune of meeting
the Ries family in his search for a new hunting companion. After
a few good training books, countless training advice via e-mail,
phone calls, and a Top Gun training seminar from Steve, a dog
trainer was born.
Russ then took his new found training skills
and put them to the test on his new Top Gun pup. After seeing
her abilities and potential in a season of wild bird hunting,
he decided to enter his Tess in a NAVHDA Natural Ability Test
where she earned a perfect 112 prize I. Now he was hooked. The
following year he finished Tess and entered her in her first leg
of an AKC Master Hunt Test. After a series of handling errors
were worked out, Tess earned her Master Hunter title six weeks
later, passing 5 of her last 6 legs.
Russ is now successfully training a few dogs
each year for Top Gun customers in the area.
Russ can start your dog on the basic commands
of kennel, whoa, come, heel, and sit. He will socialize your dog,
e-collar condition, and expose it to birds, gun, water, and field
work. He can also finish your dog to the AKC Master Hunter level
of steady to wing-shot-and-fall, honoring, conditioned/forced
retrieve, stop to flush, etc. Conditioning and training tune-ups
are also available.
Customer's dogs will be a part of the family,
boarded in the house as part of socializing, and outside under
his supervision and during training and conditioning sessions.
The past few years of training various dogs
to an advanced level, plus a passion for hunting behind an exceptional
bird dog, have given him the experience and confidence needed
to train a dog you will be proud of.
