Showing up at the Ries residence was a life
changing experience. I showed up wanting to learn how to train
a young Setter which Steve was willing to help me train. I spent
numerous hours and days training this setter. This was the start
of a burning fire inside me to train bird dogs.
Watching other people train Top Gun dogs
made me want to get my own. Steve let me train Top Gun Hickory
Stick (Kory); this was my first dog I had trained from start to
finish. Having sold this dog as a started dog made me want to
get number two. Top Gun Diamond in the Rough was the second GSP
I got from the Ries family. She was an amazing dog and joy to
train.
I have put two AKC master hunt titles on
my own personal hunting and family companions. Polly was the first
dog I owned to receive her AKC master hunt title. Polly received
her MH at 13 months of age. This was able to be accomplished,
thanks to Top Gun Kennel understanding how to breed German Shorthairs.
Training 2-4 dogs a year has given me the
experience I need to train bird dogs. I can do fall tune ups,
expose your dog to birds or train your dog to the AKC master level.
I also condition dogs for fall hunting. Remember it is not fair
to your dog on opening weekend of bird season to expect them to
hunt hard when not in peak physical condition. On a limited basis
I can expose your bird dog to wild birds in Iowa and North Dakota.
